Johnny Rawls (US)

Johnny Rawls wurde 1951 in Columbia, Mississippi geboren und wuchs in Purvis und Gulfport auf. Sein Interesse in Musik wurde früh geweckt, als er in seiner Kindheit seinem Großvater bei Blues Gitarre spielen zuhörte.

In der Highschool begann er bereits professionell mit Stars wie ZZ Hill, Little Johnny Tayler und Joe Tex zusammen zu spielen. Mitte der 70er fing er an für OV Wright als Band Director zu arbeiten. Nach Wrights Tod 1980, war als Bandleader von Little Johnny Taylor’s Band unterwegs, bis 1985, da begann seine Solo Karriere mit einer ersten Veröffentlichung beim Rainbow Label.

2016 veröffentlichte Johnny Rawls sein aktuelles Album "Tiger In A Cage". Das Blues Blast Magazine meint dazu: "Johnny Rawls is becoming one of the last of his generation still keeping soul blues alive. [...] This album shows he can be artful and prolific and firmly cements him as a top soul blues artists. The critical acclaim he has gotten is well-deserved.
